This will be quick. The Jets won Sunday, which opens the door for Jacksonville to get the #1 pick. Let's be honest, the Jets have a franchise quarterback, Sam Darnold, but he deserves better. Maybe a head coach that can harness his talent could help.
Jacksonville actually set themselves up for a tank since the end of last season. Tom Coughlin was gone and the Jaguars needed to trade away assets for picks and decided not to make any marquee free-agent signings. Looking at 10 mock drafts before the season, everyone of them picked the Jaguars to select #1. The team wasn't making any effort to try to improve this season. C'mon, if you think otherwise, then you are just lying to yourself. Seriously, look at the roster on opening day. Yes, I know. The Jaguars won that game against a Washington Football Team that couldn't find its footing yet, but since then.....
13 straight losses. It seemed perfect....then the Jets decided to lose 13 straight themselves. This was unexpected, despite the fact no one thought New York would be this bad. What's funny is that the media actually hyped the Jets' futility and their pursuit of the number one pick. This was all fun and good. Unfortunately, once again, THE JETS DO NOT NEED TREVOR LAWRENCE. Darnold is a quarterback who still has potential if he can get a coach who can tap that potential. Adam Gase isn't that coach. The man who built his coaching track record after being Peyton Manning's quarterback coach. Hahaha, Peyton Manning needed a quarterbacks coach? Also, Gase admitted to the media that he failed Sam Darnold.
Jacksonville has a quarterback tandem of Jake Luton and the Mustachioed Rebel, Gardner Minshew III. Not really promising for the future. Lawrence would fit into a situation where he has weapons at his disposal. Running back James Robinson broke out of the pack this season and receivers D.J. Chark, Dede Westbrook and Laviska Shenault Jr. He will have a new GM to work with, since the team threw Dave Caldwell out the train. (Not literally) A new coach will be employed once Doug Marrone is let go and can harness Lawrence's skills with an offense that maximizes that. See, Jacksonville could add a quarterback on an offense that has young talent. The Jets don't have that luxury.
So, it's simple. All Jacksonville has to do is lose the next two games and the Jets either lose both games or win one or both games for the prophecy to be fulfilled. The tank job will be finished and the Jaguars can fill the quarterback and hopefully erases the Blake Bortles selection and the horrible Nick Foles from fans' memories.
Who would have thought in 2020 that I would be rooting for a team to tank?
