The Horned Frog Massacre (Or The State Of The CFP)

So, about a few years ago, I made a blog about the Florida Massacre. Nebraska beat Florida (62-24) in a barnburner. I mean, the Cornhuskers burned down Florida's barn and stomped on it. I didn't expect a national championship game to be this lopsided moving forward in time.

I realize that I tend to be wrong a lot, but didn't expect this.

Texas Christian University entered this game after an outstanding regular season. Their only blemish was a close loss in the Big 12 Championship against K-State. They were put in the College Football Playoff and many followers of the game thought TCU didn't deserve to be in. Well, the Horned Frogs put everyone in their place by outlasting a Michigan team that I thought was a championship-caliber squad. So, TCU would face Georgia at the tailgate-banned SoFi Stadium. They scored a touchdown on a "Hacksaw" Max Duggan run to cut the deficit to 10-7, then the budding dynasty known as Georgia proceeded to score 55 unanswered points for a 65-7 destruction of the Horned Frogs.

Now, this is where everyone will get angry over the outcome. People named Randy the Plumber would go on to rant about the game. The discussion of why the game was such a blowout and that it dropped in ratings was brought up by several outlets. Clearly, these outlets were fan based and wanted their certain team to be in the playoff and nothing else.

-Ohio State fans would say that the National Championship game was the semifinal and if Marvin Harrison Jr. wasn't hurt, they would have been the national champions. That might be true, but woulda, shoulda, coulda, it didn't happen that way.

-Michigan fans would say that they were wrongly seeded and could have faced Ohio State in the Championship and beat them again. Yet, they couldn't get past a much-prepared TCU squad.

-Alabama fans wanted them in, because "Roll, Tide, Roll!" No, just no. The Crismon Tide had two losses this season, thus that disqualifies them from any playoff. Same goes with Clemson.

Sports shouldn't be a popularity contest. If that were the case, then the Yankees and Dodgers would face-off in the World Series every year. Who wants to see that? I don't fault the committee for putting the Horned Frogs in the playoff. They play in the Big 12, a well-respected conference. They beat Texas, Oklahoma and Baylor this season. I know that all three programs had down years, but their recruiting and talent should be better than TCU. Head coach Sonny Dykes and his program beat the system and took advantage of situations to get to the National Championship game.

Also, America needs to put Georgia on a pedestal. A dynasty is a-brewin' in Athens and Kirby Smart is using his recruiting skills to secure top talent to play and win for the Bulldogs. The National Championship last season was a sign of things to come. This demolition of TCU was the footprint of an uprising for a program in the toughest conference in the nation. With Oklahoma and Texas coming aboard, it will be tougher.

Look, the playoff will expand in a few years, so everyone should look forward to that. Until then, we got what we got, for now.
