I wasn't really going to comment on this, but at the same time, people have pushed this into something when it really wasn't anything. Apparently, Big Swole left AEW and decided to dish out parting shots on her way out, stating that there is a lack of diversity in the company. Tony Khan defended his company by telling everyone that several talents of different races won key matches during 2021 and that he let her contract expire because "her wrestling wasn't good enough."
So, in my last blog, I stated that certain comments were stupid or make little sense and I have the tendency to bring them once in a while. I also like to be annoying with that, too. While this comment wasn't stupid or made little sense, Tony Khan made an assessment of a talent who underachieved. He told the truth. Big Swole reached her apex and that was that. However, he made the comment in the heat of the moment and I understand. If he can be critical of a wrestler who left the company, can he do that with talent currently on the roster. There are several talents who are underachievers. Is he willing to throw criticism at talent to make an example? Trust me, there are underachievers on that roster. I can name a few. I can throw one name under the bus, but since this isn't a rant, I'll hold back.
Swole also pointed out that the company lacked structure. I actually agree with this. Look at the certain instances in 2021 proving this notion. The ending of the WarGames match for Blood And Guts, the entire Stadium Stampede "encounter" and the end of the Barber Wire/Exploding extravaganza are perfect examples of this. I've said this ever since Tony Khan took over. HE NEEDS TO SURROUND HIMSELF WITH EXPERIENCED PEOPLE TO SHOW HIM THE WAY. I realize that Tony is a lifelong wrestling fan and is living his dream being a promoter, but it wouldn't hurt to have people who lived and battled through the business for years, even decades. You think putting a highly, anticipated world championship as the opening bout is cutting edge or having a debut washed away by an even bigger debut a grand idea? Just a thought.
Heading into 2022, AEW can become the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. Hands down. The issue is that AEW needs authority to help them reach that. I believe Cody Rhodes will put the AEW Championship on myself like Jeff Jarrett did as part-owner of TNA. I believe they will push Brandi Rhodes as a wrestler, which she is not. The Young Bucks will have the Tag Team Championship, because why not? These people I just named are Executive Vice Presidents of AEW. See what I mean. The talent is running the institution. It can work for a while, then what? Just like any agreement, ego will take over. You are starting to see the cracks of that.
Big Swole may have touched a nerve with the lack of structure comment, but Tony Khan can fix that. It's never too late.
