Yep, I did it. I purchased Bound For Glory and decided to check out the fuss about Impact Wrestling! For a couple of years, many wrestling "experts" and fans have raved about the product, yet many of these "experts"or fans don't see Impact making an impa......dent in the tippy-top of the wrestling industry. Their Wrestle House segments and the shooting of Johnny Bravo were subpar in my opinion. The company actually did a great job promoting the pay-per-view during the last week or so. Hopefully, this event is worth the $39.99 that I shelled out.
So, the Iinspiration (the former Iiconics in WWE) come out to a live performance for their entrance in this match against Decay (Havok and Rosemary). Also, the event is taking place at Sam's Town Live, just outside of Las Vegas. I point this out because the Killers named their second album "Sam's Town".
THE FIRST MATCH WAS LOUD
All four women were yelling throughout the Knockouts Tag Team Championship. Since the event is held at a smaller venue, it was distracting. The match, itself, was underwhelming with the Iinspiration winning the gold in their debut match.
I like the announcers, Matt Striker and D-Lo Brown, doing the call. Both have experience and a high wrestling IQ. I'm just glad Josh Matthews isn't there. He worn out his welcome in my opinion.
Deonna did an interview with the former Aiden English by her side. One thing that jumps out at me is that Deonna has a nice tan.
THE TRIPLE THREAT MATCH HAD ATHLETICISM TO THE EXTREME
El Phantasmo used a move where he twisted Steve Maclin's nipples, which I thought was stupid. Then he used a maneuver where he was standing on the top rope, jumped up and landed on the same rope, then jumped down to the second rope, which I thought was awesome. D-Lo points out that BFG is #8 trending on social media. Isn't it a breath of fresh air to tell the truth? Trey Miguel wins the X-Division title in a very energetic match.
THE THIRD MATCH WAS SOLID, NOTHING SPECIAL
Violent By Design, led by Eric Young, faced Heath and a mystery partner. Right off the bat, having Eric Young lead a faction like he did with Sanity has worked for him. Also, Impact needs to give Heath a last name. Rhino comes out to pair with Heath and scores the pinfall with a GORE!
Awesome Kong gets inducted into the Impact! Hall of Fame. My grandfather was a fan of her due to her dominance in the ring. Congratulations Awesome Kong.
THE GAUNTLET MATCH WAS GIMMICKY AT TIMES
Chris Sabin and Rocky Romero started it off. I always liked Chris Sabin. Rocky Romero is a legend in New Japan. Throughout the match, Melina, Rachael Ellering and a couple of other women competitors are in the match. It's an intergender match, I guess. Johnny Swinger shows up, and he's still wrestling? The Demon shows up, too. Is that really Dale Torborg? The final two are Moose and Matt Cardona. Cardona seems to be everywhere, building his brand. Moose gets the victory via pinfall and earns his right to "call his shot." Obviously, it's for a World title match. Moose needs to be in the World title picture.
THE TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH SEEMED RUSHED
Finjuice is a stupid name for a tag team. Please change it. The match was okay, but the ending saw the Good Brothers stealing the victory. Get these competitors more time.
PURRAZZO/JAMES WAS WHAT I EXPECTED
The match told a story and saw two competitors working their asses off to a crowd loving every near pinfall after near pinfall. I was surprised Mickie scored the victory, but was good to end Deonna's reign and hopefully, start a classic feud between the two.
Minoru Suzuki is coming soon to Impact!
Also, I missed a match at the beginning of the pay-per-view for the inaugural Digital Media Championship. Huh, ok. Jordynne Grace came out victorious to win it. I like her and she will be a star in this company.
THE WORLD TITLE MATCH WAS ALSO WHAT I EXPECTED. A SOLID MAIN EVENT CONTEST.
I going to be blunt here. I never seen Josh Alexander compete before tonight. Watching this guy in the main event is like going in a time machine. He's a classic mat general who is a poor man's mix between Bret Hart and Kurt Angle. He and Christian Cage had some chemistry, which made the match watchable. Impact! sort of tipped their hand by showing Alexander's wife and son in the crowd. Why do that? So obviously Alexander made Christian tap out to the Ankle Lock to win the Impact! World Championship. He celebrated with his family as the crowd cheered "You deserve it!" It was a great moment for him.
Then, Moose decided to "call his shot" and challenge him to a title match. Moose hits the Spear and pins Alexander to win the title. Wow. Did they really have to do that? I may as well saw a career die before my vary eyes. Wrestling logic tells you that Alexander will be chasing the title in a program with Moose. That sucks for him.
Bound For Glory 2021 was an up-and-down show. The production on this was top-notch. Pat yourselves on the back for that, Impact! The ending really irritated me, because they threw a swerve in that wasn't needed. What's wrong with Moose going to the next episode of Impact! and challenging Alexander for the title? Also, Impact! needs to be in bigger venues. Plain and simple. The energy was down due to the limited crowd there at Sam's Town Live. The two main event matches were solid and made the show worth it.
