I knew it! I knew this was going to happen! Once Dwayne was named to the Board of Directors of TKO, you knew that he was going to throw his power around and put himself in the spotlight. Last night, that's exactly what happened. Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble last Saturday to earn a shot at a world championship match and the main event of the company's biggest show, WrestleMania. One night before, Cody reluctantly gave up his spot to the biggest movie star in the world.
What a damn shame!
I get that Cody left because he wasn't happy with the Stardust character and decided to start a revolution in a new wrestling company that would rival WWE. He left said company and returned with open arms from the fans and staff. He has been a money-making juggernaut with his merchandise, and anything associated with his name. The company had the chance for him to "finish the story" at last year's Mania. It didn't happen. You wanted him to face adversity and he won the Rumble so he can "finish the story" against Roman. He literally pointed at Roman after winning the Rumble. Seeing this man hug the Rock after giving his spot up was heartbreaking to watch. It left a sour taste in everyone's mouth.
Dwayne, you are the highest grossing actor in Hollywood. You have several businesses and not a day goes by where your face is somewhere. You have it all. WHY WOULD TAKE THE MAIN EVENT AWAY FROM SOMEONE WHO EARNED IT AND PUT YOURSELF IN?! The excuses are that he wanted to face Roman for that dream match. You could have done that next year. The other excuse was that he wanted to save WrestleMania. From what? The Vince situation? The company is trying to erase him, Johnny Ace and Brock Lesnar from existence. Dwayne being in the main event of WrestleMania didn't make him a hero, but a snake in the grass.
Look, Triple H, if you are being petty over Cody using a sledgehammer to the replica throne, then that's water under the bridge. You and Phil have kissed and made up, so what's the problem here? Phil made some unflattering comments about you in the past and now, you guys are homies all of a sudden. Do I think that you were the reason why this happened? No, this was clearly TKO and Dwayne, who reportedly when over everyone's head to be in the main event. You are getting hate from the Vince situation and now this. I believe this is clearly not you're doing.
Well, CM Punk is hurt, and Brock is being ostracized from the company, so that is why this happened. This is a pitiful excuse. You basically just told everyone that the talent on your current roster wasn't good enough to warrant a world championship match at WrestleMania.
-Drew McIntyre won the WWE Championship at the WrestleMania with no audience and carried the company through a pandemic. Couldn't just slide him into that slot?
-Damien Priest is the Money in the Bank winner and the company has a bright future for him. This is a perfect time to elevate him. No, no, you don't want that.
-Gunther has been Intercontinental Champion for over 600 days and has been mentioned as Seth Rollins' opponent at WrestleMania. No bite here, either.
-Bron Brekker is still on the NXT roster for some reason and could be a good opponent for the WHC. However, that is too much work probably.
-Bobby Lashley is with the Hurt Business 2.0 or whatever they're called, but we know that he is a main-eventer and should be competing for world championships. Even if he is on Smackdown, they could make it work. Big nope, there.
It's the same storyline as ten years old ago with Batista going to WrestleMania instead of Daniel Bryan and everyone was PISSED! This is the equivalent of this. According to several sources, the video of the segment has garnered over 300,000 dislikes, making it the most disliked video in the history of WWE's YouTube channel. Punk mentioned in his iconic "Pipebomb" that WWE was giving the main event slot at Mania to Dwayne without earning it and 12 years later, it is happening again. I realize that in professional wrestling, you have to recycle ideas once in a while. THIS ISN'T ONE OF THOSE IDEAS!
On Thursday, there will be a press conference to announce the main event for the show. They have five days to think about this and hopefully, have their minds cleared to make the right decision. Until then, Dwayne lived long enough to become a villain after not dying as the hero.
