Enjoy This, Arizona

So, you probably woke up and thought you were in a haze. Apparently, this weird thought that the Arizona Diamondbacks slayed teams like the Milwaukee Brewers and a depleted Los Angeles Dodgers club. They advanced to the NLCS against the heavily favored Philadelphia Phillies and get smoked at Citizens Bank Park. This only had the underdog team from Arizona win the next two games at Chase Field. After a dominating loss in the fifth game at home, the State 48's MLB team were destined to lose the next one in the hostile confines of CBP. Everyone, and I mean everyone, thought this was etched in stone. Then, the little team that could decided to blow everyone's minds by winning the next two games and putting the nation in shock. You figure, hey, the dream is over and it's time to face reality.

Well, there was no haze and the dream continues. The Arizona Diamondbacks decided to (bleep) logic and go against the grain to make every "expert" look foolish. (I hope you are reading this, Mad Dog Russo) Even as many baseball fans will claim that the new playoff format is bad because their team didn't advance far, let's be real, that's the reason, the Diamondbacks were placed in a situation where they were supposed to have a cup of coffee in the playoffs. They decided to take the pot of coffee and the donuts that came with it. I should be noted that Arizona wouldn't be in the playoffs under the old format. I say this because every "expert" will try to shove this piece of information any chance they can. The D-Backs were hot at the right time. Maybe it's time to deal with it.

So, you are probably reading this and are saying, "A.J. is being biased, because he lives in Arizona and this will be a field day for him." I answer that by saying, you damn right I am! The national media isn't going to jump in at the D-Backs' success feet first. Yesterday, I drove to work and listened to a nationally aired radio show. They discussed how the Texas Rangers made it to the World Series without any mention of the Diamondbacks as they were going to switch to other subject. My commute is over 20 minutes long. Also, nothing against the Rangers, because they are in the same boat as Arizona. It's obvious that this team is making "experts" look like fools and they are ashamed to admit the ultimate underdog made it to the big dance. That must suck.

This state hasn't really seen a team go through possibly one of the most heralded playoff runs in sports history. This franchise did win the World Series 22 years ago when the odds were stacked against them. This is even more incredible. I realize the Suns made it to the NBA Finals and the Mercury to the WNBA Finals two years ago, but they were destined to go. Unfortunately, both attempts turned out to be futile. What we have here is hopefully seeing the impossible happen. Even if they don't win the Commissioner's Trophy, people will remember this run and mention it for many years to come.

As Carly Simon once sang that this is the stuff that dreams are made of. For the Diamondbacks and the state of Arizona, the dream is far from over.
