The last 48 hours has been nauseating to say the least. With Christmas in the rearview mirror, it's time for everything to go back to normal. For Sacramento Kings fans, they wish it was still Christmas.
So, I went on a walk, trying to calm myself after the Sacramento Kings blew a lead and lost on a FOUR POINT play to Jaden Ivey and the Detroit Pistons. I don't watch NBA basketball now because the product is not how you should see it. As I was close to home, I received a DM from a source that told me that the Sacramento Kings, the team that I root for, has fired yet another head coach after another debacle of a season.....so far. By the way, I call that source Mom. Then, this guy decided to read more into the situation. So, according to sources, Mike Brown conducted a practice and participated in a presser as the team was about to board a plane to Los Angeles. Then, minutes before entering the plane, Brown received word that he was no longer the coach.....via phone call. Former coach Mike Malone summed it up in a few words via social media, "No class, no balls."
While reading all of this, there is one person who I believe is the architect of the issues: Vivek Ranadive, the owner of the team. It seems as he is once again, putting his hands on the basketball side of the organization. Two years ago, the Kings were flying high after breaking a 17-year streak of not making playoffs and were creating a buzz around the league as a team on the rise. Now, they seem to be getting worse. If these events are true, then it paints the organization as not learning anything. Everyone will point out that he was the reason why NBA basketball is still in Sacramento and "flourishing." After a while, he is also the reason why this franchise is being held back. Moves of this magnitude clearly have his handprints on them.
I should be happy that Doug Christie is now the interim head coach since he was my favorite player for "The Greatest Show on Court." However, the circumstances surrounding how he was named to the position is shady.
You know, I have to put GM Monte McNair into this mess. If Mike Brown is the person that the franchise will shun into a deep abyss, then Monte deserves some finger pointing. In the last four drafts, they selected two point guards in the first round, Davion Mitchell and Devin Carter. The point guard position was not a need for the team. In fact, Mitchell doesn't even play for the franchise anymore as he was traded to Toronto. Keegan Murray was a good pick at the time, but he has seemed to regress. They all but wasted last year's first round pick. They signed Kevin Huerter to a huge contract despite being a one-dimensional player. The DeRozan trade was nice on paper, then you realize that he is getting older, slower and injury...er. Certain moves are made just to be made.
If there was a red flag that was a symbol of how things are going for Sacramento, it is DeAaron Fox, the beacon of hope and face of a franchise, turning down an extension. This one situation has made everyone predicting that the Kings will move Fox during the season or at the trade deadline. This could cause a domino effect in which other players would want out of the capital city of California. Do I think Fox is responsible for Brown's ouster? That's hard to tell and more news could develop on that.
The Kings social media team are saints because they try their best to keep a bad situation in a positive light. Yet fans of the team haven't been too kind and are not holding back in the comments section. I have been one of those fans who dipped into this section and here was my response from last night
In my opinion, Mike Brown was done in by the very problem that has spread across the NBA, relying too much on the three and terrible defense. Watch the last few minutes of the game against the Pistons' game and see this in action.
(Side note: I was able to see the last moments of this contest.) Will Doug Christie be the guy that can lead the team into a turnaround? Hopefully.
So, as a Kings fan, you should know the ol' saying by now, here we go again.
