I'm not going to beat around the bush here. I am not a fan of this certain franchise, but I do have a linked interest on how this peculiar franchise continues to miss the mark as it disappoints their fanbase year after year. It sucks to watch a crowd outside of their home arena go crazy after their team scored a goal, only to see the final outcome go to the favor of their opponent.
Yes, folks, it has happened again. Another "supposed" cakewalk of a series for a heavily favored squad, only to see the underdog slay them in five games. This underdog just came off a series where they came back from a 3-1 deficit to topple the greatest regular season team in NHL history. This heavily favored squad didn't have a chance. They were a sitting duck by the time Game 1 ended.
What hurts the most? Seeing a stacked hockey club make the regular season into a pot of gold, only to watch it turn into fool's gold when the playoffs come around. Or seeing a fanbase with so much passion have a wrench thrown in their plans. This has to be torture, absolute torture.
What causes a franchise to go through so much pain and despair? Could it be the boy wonder GM who spent his time and knowledge to construct a squad that should be able to get over the hump? Could it be the late owner who did everything to save a buck? Could it be the controversial call during a series which allowed the greatest player of all-time to reach another Stanley Cup Final? Could it be the curse they have when it comes to a Game 7 at TD Garden? Whatever is the cause, it is daunting.
Here we are, 55 years and counting. Who knows when the drought will end or if it's never ending.
