Dear Nebraska Football,
You actually think you're an elite program? You are not. You are swimming in a river of delusion. You are Texas, Notre Dame and hell, even Florida. These are programs that fancy themselves as "elite", "storied" and "prestigious" due to past success. This is you right now. You're the person who had the greatest night of his life 20 years ago and continue to piggyback on that. Time to look in a mirror.
It is obvious why you are in this situation. I can pinpoint this in my sleep. The move to the Big Ten caused this. You thought going to a bigger conference would make you a national power. You forgot that in the Big 12, you were able to snag decent high school talent to Lincoln and maybe, be able to sneak a top 10 recruiting class past Oklahoma and Texas. In the Big Ten,......oh, no, nope, no, no, no. Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State have a lockdown at the top. Nothing was going to change.
This time last year, you decided to fire Scott Frost. He was on a Cornhusker team that dominated competition in the NCAA. This is a cruel reminder of what was. Frost is now gone, and you brought in Matt Rhule, the Quarterback Ruiner. Not only that he received a (cough, cough) eight-year $74 million contract for his troubles. That is called desperation. Yes, he is a coach that can turn programs around, but this is a task which could cause many headaches.
Here is a sample of how things are in Lincoln: Dylan Raiola, the consensus #1 prospect for 2024, is a future superstar at quarterback for any college program. He could have been the perfect piece to your program's resurgence. His father went to Nebraska and Matt Rhule could have the player to shred his "Quarterback Ruiner" label. Well,......he committed to Georgia, and you were left in the dust, again.
So, enclosing, unless you plan on moving to another conference anytime soon, this is your future for a long, long time.
Sincerely, A.J.
