For those who don't know me, my name is A.J (or Anthony). I came into this world on August 10, 1979. I have seen and heard and unfortunately, smelled many things throughout my life. I eaten plenty of big meals and drank a lot of huge beverages. Also, throughout this life, I experienced many joys that entertained me. Movies, music, etc. that broaden my horizon.
But the one thing that caught my eye during my young years was sports. Something about the story of sports really spoke to me. I wasn't really the most talkative person ever, but when it came to sports, I will talk to you through the whole night about it. Probably non-stop.
Just learning about the teams playing in the major sports franchises and players in said franchises really captured my interest in following it for the rest of my life. Even watching clutch moments in sports history still gives me chills down my spine. Whenever I watch Luis Gonzalez deliver the game-winning hit against the Yankees in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, or watching Jordan hit the jumper to clinch the 1998 NBA Finals or watching Tom Brady lead a comeback against the Falcons in Super Bowl 51, or watching Uwe Krupp win the Stanley Cup for the Colorado Avalanche against the Florida Panthers in a triple-overtime thriller, sports just clicked with me.
As a youngster, I read Sports Illustrated religiously. How they described a certain sporting event made me hooked on the subject. ESPN was also the training video that I could have watched all day if I wanted to. Through the years, I would guess a player and see what college they went to. That was my thing. As the years went by, my love for sports grew, despite yours truly not really being an athlete. I was the person looking from the sideline or the press box. Then something called YouTube was invented and it became a total source to watch a certain game or a documentary, or even other channels that covered sports. This made me more of a student to the subject.
About six years ago, my best friend, Chris and I developed the Real Sports Marks AZ. This was the avenue that would show what I knew about the sporting landscape. I was really timid about writing, but I wanted to give people my perspective on a blog. My first one was about the 434-day title reign of CM Punk. I read this today and that was when I broke out of my shell. After over 200 blogs, it's safe to say that I feel comfortable doing it. When I look at what we have done since 2017 and it amazes me. We are not big, but it is what I like doing and we enjoy talking about it.
I would say thanks to my fellow co-creator, Chris as we started something special. My brother, Daniel and I used to watch NFL Primetime and pro wrestling as kids, so he has been there from the beginning. So has my uncle, Peter, as we learned about sports through the many books he owned on the subject. My dad, Fernando, is there when it came to hockey and L.A. sports. My stepmother, Vero, who is a huge Dodger fan. My stepfather, Chris, who is a Niner fan and we go to D-Back games as much as we could. My mother, Maria, is also there when it came to talking about sports, as are my aunts, uncles, cousins, and the rest of my extended family. I have met many people throughout my life who have enjoyed sports as much as I do. I am grateful for all of these people that can follow this along with me.
So, when you see me just sitting with a cold one in my hand and some food in front of me, pull up a chair and we can talk about sports for a while.......and music, too.
