Dear Texas Rangers Hierarchy,
Did you actually think this was going to work? No, seriously......going into the 2022 season, did you really look at the roster and said to yourselves, "Our team is going to take over the AL West." I didn't think it was going to happen. I thought maybe third or fourth place in the division. They finished fourth. Nothing has changed.
Your team has a spanking new stadium and you decided to add players to the organization this off-season by spending more than $500 million for three of them. Not only that, you decided to make the mistake you did over two decades ago. You A-Rod'ed Corey Seager. Corey (bleeping) Seager! If there was a list of players that deserve an A-Rod-type contract, Corey Seager isn't one of them.
Manager Chris Woodward was a dullard. If he cared more about running the team than getting snippy about unwritten rules, maybe he would be in good standing with the Rangers. Unfortunately, he wasn't and now, he's gone.
In the early 2010's, Jon Daniels built the Texas Rangers into a powerhouse in the American League. In recent times, Texas hasn't been able to get past the likes of the Astros, Mariners or even, the Angels. In the 17 years at the helm, Daniels provided the team with players that many fans will remember for ages. He was unceremoniously let go by the Rangers in August.
Ray Davis and Bob Simpson, as co-CEO's of the team, your issue is that the willingness to spend money to put grade-A players from free agency on the roster is going to fail if you can't develop young talent. As much as every franchise wants to be the Dodgers, it's not easy. The next PBO (President of Baseball Operations) will have to load that young talent and hopefully, it can mesh well with the veterans.
It's going to be a long journey for the Texas Rangers, but it could happen.
And to think, you were a contender when the owner was bankrupt. Remember that?
