A.J.'s Letter To The Chicago White Sox

Dear Chicago White Sox,

What the hell, man? You were supposed to be challenging for World Series championships by now. There had to be a fork in the road to get to this situation. I will get to that later.

Jerry Reinsdorf, you are probably a demi-god in Chicago with the Bulls winning six NBA titles with Jordan, Pippen, Horace Grant, Kukoc, Rodman, etc. etc., and the White Sox won the World Series in 2005, after 88 years of disappointment. The architect of that team was Kenny Williams, the man you let go, along with Rick Hahn, just recently. In all fairness, it was time for a change. The players that you acquired have regressed.

-Lucas Giolito was a can't-miss prospect after the White Sox traded him for Adam Eaton. He was supposed to collect Cy Young awards as the ace of Southside's baseball club. That didn't materialize as he was dealt at the trade deadline to Anaheim for hopeful prospects. (Update: Giolito was cut by Anaheim as of this writing.)

-Yoan Moncada was the centerpiece of the Chris Sale and the centerpiece of the new era of the Chicago White Sox. He has been okay, nothing special. Not what you want from a centerpiece.

-Tim Anderson was a breakout star four years ago and was going to carry the Chisox to playoff contention. Though he is solid on the stats, there are reports that he is a nuisance behind the scenes. He being the recipient of Jose Ramirez's fist doesn't do him favors.

-Michael Kopech had scouts and experts salivating over his over-100 mph fastball. He was the pitching centerpiece in the Chris Sale trade and was supposed to pair with Giolito to form a dominating one-two punch (Sorry, Tim Anderson) in the era. Kopech has struggled and seen his ERA go over 5 for the majority of the year.

Luis Robert Jr. and Dylan Cease are the few that have tried to keep the White Sox above water, but that is a few to try to carry an already lost season.

The moment that your franchise was not going to take off like you hoped was when the Chicago White Sox hired Tony La Russa. Right there! That is the reason why this rebuild has stalled. Don't get me wrong, La Russa is a Hall-of-Famer and one of the greatest managers in the history in the game. However, he was 75 and already in retirement phase. He wasn't fully intrigued by the speed of game now. His views of the old way to play the game seemed to cause a division within the locker room. He was allegedly sleeping in the dugout during games. This was a misstep on the path to your glory.

If you think that Tim Anderson getting knocked out by Jose Ramirez was the symbol of this trashy season, oh, no, something else topped that. The symbol was from my new personal hero, Berto from the Eastside. A White Sox fan called in to the ESPN Chicago radio show and went on a six-minute tirade about the state of your franchise. The video of it has made the rounds on social media. The tirade made the two hosts of the show nearly fall out of their chairs from cracking up laughing. I was going to keep ranting about this, but I don't want to top Berto from the Eastside. Bless you, sir.

Now, you want to leave out of.....hold up...(looking through Google to find the name of the stadium)....Guaranteed Rate Field, wait, that's the name of the stadium? You could have kept the name Comiskey. Anyways, you are thinking of moving out of this venue. I mean, the shooting that occurred inside the ballpark recently could have been avoided with, I don't know, better security. Relocation could be an option, but at the same time, the White Sox are part of the South Side of Chicago. That would be a tragedy for fans there.

Remember when the Veeck family decided to do a Disco Demolition night at the old Comiskey Park, consider this as your own personal baseball disco inferno.

Sincerely, A.J.

P.S. ZING!
