One. SAN ANTONIO- VICTOR WEMBENYAMA F/C, METROPOLITANS 92
The obvious choice. He is being called the best prospect since LeBron and is ready to join a franchise that had generational talent big men as David Robinson and Tim Duncan.
2. CHARLOTTE- BRANDON MILLER F, ALABAMA
The Hornets have LaMelo Ball and......that's about it. Despite character concerns, Miller is the perfect wing to receive gorgeous passes from Ball and help build a foundation for the Hornet franchise.
The Portland Trailblazers, at this point, have decided to send Damien Lillard on to a contender. I say Miami for Duncan Robinson, Tyler Herro and maybe a pick. I could be wrong here.
3. PORTLAND- SCOOT HENDERSON G, G LEAGUE IGNITE
Lillard's heir apparent will lead the Blazers into the future. If Wemby wasn't the generational talent that he is, Scoot could have easily been the first choice. Portland, please don't waste him like you did Lillard.
4. HOUSTON- AMEN THOMPSON G, OVERTIME ELITE
Despite the lingering talk of James Harden coming back, the Rockets will stand their ground and select this athletic point to help Jalen Green bounce back. Houston could be fun to watch under new coach Ime Udoka's system.
5. DETROIT- JARACE WALKER F, HOUSTON
The Pistons need a bruiser that harkens back to their championship glory. Walker can rebound and shift to a quicker opponent with ease, a la Draymond Green.
MOCK TRADE ALERT!!!! MOCK TRADE ALERT!!!!
The Orlando Magic have decided to scrap their rebuild and go all-in after realizing that Paolo Banchero is the franchise piece to build around.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have decided that the KAT/Gobert combo is a flop after one season, and they want some draft picks. So, ........
ORLANDO receives:
Karl-Anthony Towns, Kyle Anderson
MINNESOTA receives:
Wendell Carter Jr., Jalen Suggs (a Minneapolis native), Markelle Fultz, two first-round picks (2023) and a first-round pick (2024)
It sounds crazy but look at the Gobert trade last year.
6. MINNESOTA- AUSAR THOMPSON F/G, OVERTIME ELITE
Amen's twin brother is in the right situation as he can develop under a plethora of depth. It will be fascinating to see how Minnesota can utilize Thompson.
7. INDIANA- CAM WHITMORE F, VILLANOVA
Whitmore can play the forward and guard positions with his versatility and feel for the game. Imagine the matchup problems he, Tyrese Haliburton and Benedict Mathurin can cause.
8. WASHINGTON- ANTHONY BLACK G, ARKANSAS
Just hand him the Wizards draft cap since every mock has him going here. Washington finally gets their point guard of the future for a team in need of an uprising.
Also, are you going to trade Bradley Beal or what? (Update: Pending trade sends Beal to Phoenix.)
MOCK TRADE ALERT!!!! MOCK TRADE ALERT!!!!
The Raptors decide to trade up a few spots to select the replacement for Fred VanVleet.
9. TORONTO- CASON WALLACE G, KENTUCKY
The Raptors are starting to realize that it is time to go full rebuild. Wallace is still raw, but if Toronto can sign a veteran to start, he can develop nicely.
10. DALLAS- GRADEY DICK F, KANSAS
Why did you tank again? Dallas grabs the best long-range shooter in this class. Gradey can help ease the pressure off Luka. We will give Luka three seasons before he's had enough.
Eleven. MINNESOTA- BILAL COULIBALY F, METROPOLIANS 92
Wemby's teammate who can develop on a stacked and hungry T'Wolves squad. He is only 18 and can slowly learn the game with no problem.
12. OKLAHOMA REBUILD PART....I LOST COUNT- JORDAN HAWKINS G, UCONN
Hawkins was the glue player on a championship team at UConn. That is a perfect role for him on a Thunder team that is on the rise.
13. UTAH- KEYONTE GEORGE G, BAYLOR
The Jazz need an athletic two-guard to fill Donovan Mitchell's shoes. George has the ability to take over a game. This is exactly what Utah needs.
14. NEW ORLEANS- TAYLOR HENDRICKS F, UCF
Let's face it, Zion is in a pickle and the Pels need insurance. Hendricks has the ability to be physical or display some above-the-rim skills. Hopefully, he is durable enough to make it through an NBA schedule.
15. ATLANTA- DERECK LIVELY II C, DUKE
For a couple of seasons, I heard rumors that John Collins and Clint Capela were going to be on the move. If that happens, Atlanta needs a tall center who can rebound and block shots. Lively is raw but can develop on a Psycho Q-coached squad.
MOCK TRADE ALERT!!!! MOCK TRADE ALERT!!!!!
Brooklyn decides to move up to 16 as Utah moves down to 21.
16. BROOKLYN- JALEN HOOD-SCHIFINO G, INDIANA
The Nets select their point guard of the future. Spencer Dinwiddie is the starter, so JHS can learn from one of the most respected players in the league.
17. LA LAKERS- KRIS MURRAY F, IOWA
Rui could be gone, so draft the twin brother of a player who is on your division rival. Many scouts say Kris has the same type of game as Keegan. If that is the case, the Lakers should be impressed.
18. MIAMI- LEONARD MILLER F, G LEAGUE IGNITE
If they trade the pick for Damien Lillard, Portland gets a nice piece for the future. If Miami keeps the pick, they have a building block for their future after Jimmy Buckets retires.
19. GOLDEN STATE- JETT HOWARD G, MICHIGAN
The Warriors are in a position where they could stock young players away as Curry and Thompson wind down the clock to their place in the Hall of Fame and jersey retirements. Howard is going to be a favor in the future.
MOCK TRADE ALERT!!!! MOCK TRADE ALERT!!!!
The Memphis Grizzlies trade up to 20 as Houston trades down to 25. The Rockets can do that, though.
20. MEMPHIS- KOBE BUFKIN G, MICHIGAN
With Ja Morant continually shooting himself in the foot, not literally, the Grizzlies get an insurance pick who could play small forward in situations and fill in at point. It shouldn't have to be this way.
Twenty-One. UTAH- DARIQ WHITEHEAD F, DUKE
The Jazz can store this prospect away and hope he can be healthy enough to prosper in a culture that can be patient with the two surgeries he had on his foot.
22. BROOKLYN- OLIVIER-MAXENCE PROSPER F, MARQUETTE
An athletic freak and an energy lightning bolt, the Nets get a player who is perfect for playing in situations where Bridges is in the lineup, or he can spell him when needed.
23. PORTLAND- NOAH CLOWNEY F, ARKANSAS
The Blazers have an abundance of young wings and guards to develop. Time to add youth in the frontcourt and Clowney is that piece to start. Raw, but can be a key contributor in the future.
24. SACRAMENTO- BRICE SENSABAUGH F, OHIO STATE
It's weird that the Kings are this far down in the draft, right? Anyways, they need to fill a forward position and Sensabaugh has size and can hit the three when needed. I think they could have drafted another Keegan Murray.
25. HOUSTON- ANDRE JACKSON JR. F/G UCONN
Another "glue' player who can play defense and score when needed. Funny how a lot of "glue" players are a part of championship teams.
26. INDIANA- TRAYCE JACKSON-DAVIS F, INDIANA
The Pacers are determined to keep the youth movement alive. TJD is a big man who can shoot from the outside. Indiana could create matchup problems for their opponents. I said that already, didn't I?
27. CHARLOTTE- COLBY JONES G, XAVIER
The Hornets get a two-guard to pair with Brandon Miller. LaMelo Ball is going to have fun with this. Now, here's the question, does the new ownership trade Ball and start over?
28. UTAH- BEN SHEPPARD G, BELMONT
This long-range shooter reminds the Jazz of Kyle Korver. You bet your bottom dollar that Utah isn't going to pass up on him.
29. INDIANA- KOBE BROWN F, MISSOURI
Indy selects a husky player who can light it up from three-point land and create a, you guessed it, a matchup problem.
And finally.....
30. LA CLIPPERS- AMARI BAILEY G, UCLA
LA uses a rare first-round pick on a prospect who they hope can develop and spell Kawhi and PG13. Hope is the key word.
Well, there you go. I might be wrong, but that's why they call it a mock draft, right?
