One. JACKSONVILLE- TRAVON WALKER DE/LB, GEORGIA
The Jaguars go to defense with their second consecutive #1 overall pick. Walker has a tremendous blend of size and speed that can transform a dormant defense quickly.
2. DETROIT- AIDAN HUTCHINSON DE, MICHIGAN
The Lions get a Dan Campbell-type player. A Michigan born prospect who the fanbase will get behind from day one. He can also make offensive tackles have sleepless nights.
3. HOUSTON- SAUCE GARDNER CB, CINCINNATI
Lovie Smith gets a "shutdown" corner, a la Charles Tillman. Gardner is a big, physical defensive back who has the quickness to match up against speedier receivers.
So, 10 years ago, the Indianapolis Colts selected Andrew Luck with the #1 pick. Luck was the next generational talent at quarterback. Unfortunately, snake oil salesman.....I mean, GM Ryan Grigson failed to provide Luck with solid offensive line help which caused major injuries for Andrew and an early retirement. Why am I bringing this up? Because the next pick illustrates how to help a budding franchise quarterback.
4. NY JETS- IKEM EKWONU T, NC STATE
The Jets add another big offensive line prospect to protect their franchise quarterback Zach Wilson.
5. NY GIANTS- KAYVON THIBODEAUX DE/LB, OREGON
The G-men add the most explosive talent in this year's draft......and bring some defensive punch on an already talented unit.
6. CAROLINA- EVAN NEAL OT, ALABAMA
You thought they were going quarterback here? Nope. Matt Rhule will stick with Sam Darnold and draft offensive line help for him.
TRADE ALERT!
7. ATLANTA- KENNY PICKETT QB, PITTSBURGH (Falcons trade spots with NY GIANTS)
Marcus Mariotta is a short term solution. Time for the Falcons to get their franchise quarterback here.
ANOTHER TRADE ALERT!
8. PITTSBURGH- MALIK WILLIS QB, LIBERTY
(Steelers move up to eight for future picks and give NY GIANTS the 20th pick)
Like Mariotta, Mitchell Trubisky is a short term solution and Pittsburgh will address their quarterback situation with this trade.
9. SEATTLE- DANIEL FAALELE OT, MINNESOTA
The Seahawks address their offensive line woes. Funny that they did it after Russell Wilson leaves the team.
10. NY JETS- KYLE HAMILTON S, NOTRE DAME
The Jets have lost Jamal Adams and Marcus Moye at the safety position in recent years. Hamilton should make an immediate impact despite his slow 40 time.
Eleven. WASHINGTON- DRAKE LONDON WR, USC
The Footba......Sorry, the Commanders add the receiver with the most upside, but is still unpolished. Carson Wentz could help in London's development. I said could.
12. MINNESOTA- DEREK STINGLEY JR. CB, LSU
The Vikings have whiffed on Trae Waynes and Jeff Gladney, but Stingley Jr. is tall and damn fast. I think they get it right this time.
TRADE ALERT!
13. GREEN BAY- JAMESON WILLIAMS WR, ALABAMA
(The Pack trade up and surrender the 22nd and 28th picks to Houston)
C'mon, Green Bay. You locked up Aaron Rodgers long term. I know he can be a malcontent, but give the man some help.
14. BALTIMORE- JORDAN DAVIS DT, GEORGIA
This is what we call a Baltimore pick. A player who has freakish ability for a man his size. Remind you of Haloti Ngata anyone?
15. PHILADELPHIA- CHARLES CROSS T, MISSISSIPPI STATE
The Eagles draft a future blindside protector to an aging line. Hopefully, they don't tempt themselves with drafting a receiver in the first round for the third consecutive season.
16. NEW ORLEANS- DEMARVIN LEAL DT/DE, TEXAS A&M
Ok, hear me out. Cam Jordan is in the backend of his career and Marcus Davenport has been a bust. New Orleans needs some depth in the DL. Leal can provide that.
17. LA CHARGERS- KENYON GREEN G, TEXAS A&M
The Bolts continue to add protection for future MVP Justin Herbert. That's right. I said future MVP.
18. PHILADELPHIA- JERMAINE JOHNSON II DE, FLORIDA STATE
Philly's second first round pick is on the defensive side of the ball, tapping JJII to add depth on the line.
TRADE ALERT!
19. KANSAS CITY- TREYLON BURKS WR, ARKANSAS
(The Chiefs trade up to 19 and give NOLA #29 plus late round selections)
You knew this was going to happen. Kansas City snags a home run threat to replace Tyreek Hill.
TRADE ALERT!
20. ATLANTA- GARRETT WILSON WR, OHIO STATE
(The Falcons trade two future second round picks and late round selections to NYG for the 20th pick)
After drafting their franchise quarterback with their first pick, the Falcons get a weapon for him. Let the rebuild begin in the ATL.
Twenty One. NEW ENGLAND- DEVIN LLOYD LB, UTAH
Belichick loves linebackers who make plays and deliver hits. He gets that and then some with Lloyd.
22. HOUSTON- DAVID OJABO LB, MICHIGAN
The Texans continue to add more athleticism on their defense with the selection of Ojabo.
23. ARIZONA- LOGAN HALL DT/DE, HOUSTON
The Cards need depth on the defensive line as Hall can hopefully blossom.
24. DALLAS- TYLER LINDERBAUM C, IOWA
The Cowboys may have finally found the replacement for Travis Frederick.
TRADE ALERT!
25. INDIANAPOLIS- MATT CORRAL QB, OLE MISS
(Indy trades a future first round and late round picks to Buffalo for the 25th pick)
Chris Ballard and the Colts go for the home run and draft the heir apparent to Matt Ryan.
26. TENNESSEE- CHRIS OLAVE WR, OHIO STATE
With A.J. Brown being disgruntled, the Titans select Olave as an insurance policy.
27. TAMPA BAY- TRENT MCDUFFIE CB, WASHINGTON
The Bucs are surprised that McDuffie fell to them, but they will take it.
28. HOUSTON- TREY MCBRIDE TE, COLORADO STATE
In a draft with a deep wide receiver class, Houston adds a safety valve for Davis Mills.
29. NEW ORLEANS- TREVOR PENNING OT, NORTHERN IOWA
New Orleans helps Jameis Winston or whoever the quarterback is with this huge blocker.
30. KANSAS CITY- DAXTON HILL S, MICHIGAN
The Chiefs use their second pick to replace Honey Badger.
Thirty One. CINCINNATI- NICHOLAS PETIT-FRERE OT, OHIO STATE
This is a no-brainer. You need to protect Joe Burrow. It's that simple.
32. DETROIT- NAKOBE DEAN LB, GEORGIA
I think the Lions will give Jared Goff a shot. Detroit adds another offensive wrecker on defense.
There you have it. I tried, but it seems plausible.
