DALLAS COWBOYS
Jason Garrett is gone, while Mike McCarthy is in. Amari Cooper gets extended and drafting CeeDee Lamb makes the Cowboys offense scary. The defense lost Byron Jones, but should be able to be stout. So, everything should be fine......By the way, how's that extension coming along for Dak Prescott?
NEW YORK GIANTS
The Giants hired Joe Judge as head coach from the Patriots. New York invested first round picks on Saquon Barkley, Daniel Jones and Andrew Thomas, and all resemble the cornerstone of the offense. The defense has questions, as does every phase of the game for this team. Hopefully, Judge can lead the Giants out of mediocrity this season. The JURY is still out.
C'mon, you knew that was coming.
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
The Eagles are puzzling due to the fact that two years ago, they were Super Bowl champions. The regression stems on the health of Carson Wentz, which hasn't been stable. The defense has been hit with the injury bag as well. Darius Slay could improve the secondary. Other than that, it could be a long season for the Birds.
WASHINGTON (clears throat) (clears throat again) FOOTBALL TEAM
Yep, the Redskins are dead. As is any dignity that this organization had. I don't expect much from this team this year. On a good note, Alex Smith and his comeback should be a tug on the heartstrings. Also, please block for poor Dwayne Haskins. Get well, Ron Rivera.
CHICAGO BEARS
The Bears have been a defensively strong squad for a few seasons. The offense has been lagging behind and Matt Nagy named Mitchell Trubisky as starting quarterback. Unfortunately, there is a $88 million backup in Nick Foles waiting in the wings. Please don't run Tarik Cohen up the middle this season.
DETROIT LIONS
Matt Patricia is in his third season as coach and things haven't been golden. Matthew Stafford is on the last years in Detroit. First round pick Jeff Okudah should replace Darius Slay at corner and signing Adrian Peterson helps the running game, but the clock is ticking for Patricia.
GREEN BAY PACKERS
The Pack went to the NFC Championship game with a tenuous defense and a ball control offense. The 49ers had that and dominated the contest. Green Bay decided to draft Aaron Rodgers's heir apparent in Jordan Love as coach Matt LeFleur continues to build this team in his image. Playoffs for them.
MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Questions are can Dalvin Cook stay healthy and can the receiving core prosper without Stefon Diggs? The defense was already strong, yet became stronger with the trade for Yannick Ngakoue. Also, the Vikings now have trust in quarterback Kirk Cousins. Things are going good in Minnesota. For now.
ATLANTA FALCONS
Atlanta is in a quandary this season. The offense is still good with Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley and newly signed Todd Gurley. Defensively, the Falcons have been up-and-down and facing Tom Brady twice a year doesn't do them any favors. Dan Quinn is in the annual hot seat this campaign.
CAROLINA PANTHERS
A new era in Charlotte as Matt Rhule comes in as head coach and Teddy Bridgewater as quarterback. The defense took a hit when Luke Kuechly retired. I call this a rebuild year for the Panthers. See Run CMC or Catch 22 (Christian McCaffrey) continue to dominate the league.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
The Saints continue to experience bad luck in the playoffs, but have a squad who can reach the Super Bowl. Michael Thomas had a record-breaking season in 2019, prompting the organization to give him an extension. Now Alvin Kamara wants an extension and the team has fielded trade offers for him. Oh, boy.
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
The Bucs had a busy off-season, signing a certain six-time Super Bowl winning quarterback. He also brought his top target out of retirement (GRONK!). Adding LeSean McCoy and Leonard Fournette helps. Tampa is a playoff team, but a Super Bowl contender? Don't count TB12.
ARIZONA CARDINALS
The Cards made progress towards the end of 2019. Kyler Murray was as good as advertised during that time. The off-season was a busy one as Steve Keim added pieces during free-agency and drafted Isaiah Simmons to play over the field on defense......and there was that trade to land DeAndre Hopkins.
LOS ANGELES RAMS
The Rams open up SoFi Stadium with a squad that has questions. L.A. still has dangerous weapons on both sides of the ball, yet the dead cap money is hanging over the head of the franchise. Anyhoo, the Rams are a playoff contender.
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
After years of collecting high draft picks and signing players that fit Kyle Shanahan's system, the Niners rode the wave to the Super Bowl. Despite falling to K.C., San Francisco has the core that could translate long-term success. They are also a playoff contender.
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
The Hawks continue to chug along and added a superior talent on defense, trading for Jamal Adams. Seattle rests their faith on Russell Wilson's shoulders.....and feet. Adding D.K. Metcalf in the draft last season was a blessing and helps Russ a lot. The Seahawks are in the cusp of a team that can contend, but they still have questions.
