Why WWE And Saudi Arabia Are A Difficult Match

Crown Jewel commenced on Halloween and many critics have bashed the company for continuing their business partnership with the country considering that there have been problems on top of problems with talent, agents or any other employees from the company. So it's obvious to the wrestling "universe" that WWE should shy away from going there. Here are some points to what I'm talking about.

SOME OF THE SUPERSTARS DON'T WANT TO GO

John Cena and Daniel Bryan are big money, main-event stars that voiced their opinion about going to Saudi Arabia. Sami Zayn can't go, even if wanted to, due to his Syrian background. Aleister Black isn't allowed due to his tattoos depicting religious connotations. Kevin Owens has refused, because of his friendship with Zayn. There are a lot of other superstars that feel this same way, but don't want to speak out due to the thought of losing their jobs or having their push stopped.

WOMEN SUPERSTARS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PERFORM THERE

Yes, I realize Natalya and Lacey Evans performed at this year's Crown Jewel. I'm going to be totally honest about this. What was supposed to be a historic moment for both women, it seemed like WWE was trying to justify the point of "See, see, they're allowing women to wrestle here." For a company which pushes its women's division to be as equal to the men's, it rubs fans the wrong way that the women are restricted from performing in front of the Saudi crowd.

TRAVEL GETTING BACK TO THE UNITED STATES IS A MESS

It was evident by the missing superstars who couldn't attend Friday Night Smackdown that traveling to and from Saudi Arabia is an absolute pain in the ass. Hulk Hogan had trouble getting to Saudi Arabia, until a mystery person gave him a ride on his personal plane. If WWE is really gung-ho about this, could they just do this during a European tour instead of having them go from the United States to Saudi Arabia and go back. Seems like a major headache there.

THEY PAY THEIR LEGENDS A BOAT LOAD OF MONEY TO APPEAR THERE

But at what cost? The Undertaker has appeared in three shows there and hasn't received the praise that he has been accustomed to. The Goldberg bout is considered the worst match of the year and DX vs. the Brothers of Destruction was panned by various wrestling critics. Goldberg, himself, looked bad. Shawn Michaels came out retirement to participate in the tag team match last year, and it wasn't pretty to watch. The Saudi Prince is a fan of nostalgia. Remember, he wanted the Ultimate Warrior and Yokozuna to appear at the Greatest Royal Rumble last year.......both have been deceased for a while now.

THE COMPANY WANTS THESE EVENTS THERE TO RIVAL OR BE ANOTHER WRESTLEMANIA

Here's the problem with this. Everyone wants to see WrestleMania. The week of the event is a Super Bowl-like extravaganza that enticed many fans from all countries to enjoy the experience and watch the event.....LIVE!....on the network. Not at 9am on a weekday when many people are unable to watch the event and have updates on their phones telling them what happened without watching the event. Not exactly enticing there.

ALL IN ALL, IT'S BASICALLY A GLORIFIED HOUSE SHOW

I've read many reports and heard a lot of wrestling pundits call the events there that. I watched this and thought, they may have a point. I understand the festivities are in a different country which brings a different feel than shows in the United States. But the feel is just as a house show. Take SummerSlam in 1992, emulating from Wembley Stadium in London. The crowd had a WrestleMania feel and they were electric throughout. The crowds show up in Saudi Arabia, but it's more of a "happy to be there" atmosphere.

WWE WANTS TO BUILD A PERFORMANCE CENTER THERE

This is actually a positive sign since the company wants to build goodwill to a country that is learning to be "progressive", a word the company tosses around like a beanbag.

IT GIVES WWE A CHANCE TO AIR A PAY-PER-VIEW ON FOREIGN SOIL

This is a ridiculous statement, considering that WWE could have pay-per-view events in other countries during their European tour.....an event that would include the women superstars and the male superstars that refused to go to Saudi Arabia.

As much as the fans or experts think that WWE going to Saudi Arabia is a difficult match for each other, don't expect the company to break off the agreement. The Saudi government gave them a boat load of money to entertain and have the best shows they can muster.

Wish they could put that much effort to Smackdown on Fox.
