2014- Kofi entered the year with another Royal Rumble moment, when he landed the barricade and made a long jump to reach the ring. He also entered the inaugural Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 30 and he had a moment where he was thrown over the turnbuckles and keeping his toes on the steel steps. During this event, Daniel Bryan won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship with the odds stacked against him. Why do I bring this up? You'll see. But other than that, Kofi had a disappointing year. There was a feeling that the company just didn't know what to do with him. So during the summer, Kofi was put into another tag team. And you are thinking, Kofi is put in another tag team that will win another tag team title, but what will it bring to the fans? The brass put him with two other superstars seeking a fresh start: Big E and Xavier Woods.
They were given a preacher gimmick and called themselves The New Day. The New Day had a lot of momentum as the gimmick was getting over, but something was missing.
2015- The New Day started to grow out of the preacher gimmick and after losing a fatal four way match for the tag team titles at WrestleMania 31, The New Day turned heel as this was Kofi's first turn as a heel in his career. They also went to a gimmick where they would be annoying and do sophomoric antics to rile the crowd up. This reminded me of the Edge and Christian "5 Second Pose" era. And like that era, this worked as the crowd would chant "NEW- DAY- SUCKS!", a rib on Xavier Woods' chant of "New Day Rocks!" As a face, Kofi was good on the mic, but as a heel, he was able to push his mic skills to its full potental, especially when feeding off Woods and Big E. There is a 18 minute video that was a WWE exclusive of the New Day that was unedited and it is a treasure to watch as Brandi Rhodes is part of it also. I liked their interactions with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins as they would do their wacky promo and Seth was trying his best not to laugh as he was the serious and swermy heel. They defeated Tyson Kidd and Cesaro at Extreme Rules to win the WWE Tag Team Titles, another one for Kofi. They retained the titles in the next PPV in the first ever Tag Team Elimination Chamber match. They started a feud with the Prime Time Players: Titus O'Neill and Darren Young, which I thought was very underrated. Both teams had the skills on the mic and the ring to make this a long lasting feud. But after the New Day won back the tag team titles against PTP at SummerSlam, they were quickly placed in a feud with the returning Dudley Boys. The New Day were able to retain the titles as the year came to a close.
2016- The New Day was on a great high. Also Xavier Woods' UpupDowndown channel was becoming a sensation on the internet. So when the New Day turned face against the League of Nations......oh, god, the League of Nations....the New Day didn't miss a step with the crowd as they would continue to be one of the most entertaining acts in the company. They had a six man tag team match against the League at WrestleMania.....and they lost. Think about it, the team that was over with the crowd lost to the team that was considered a bust. WrestleMania 32 was a weird show. They also came out to a giant box of their faux cereal, Booty O's. They would face against the Vaudevillains next and had one promo leading up to their bout where the New Day mocked the bygone era with a cardboard time machine and Kofi going back to his Jamaican gimmick for a brief moment. It was also during this year that the New Day broke the record for longest reign as tag team champions at 483 days, losing the titles to Sheamus and Cesaro at Roadblock.
2017- Kofi once again had a Royal Rumble highlight and the New Day were selected to host WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. Maybe that had something to do with a certain video of Xavier Woods, Paige and former WWE talent Brad Maddox doing some questionable activities. They were drafted to Smackdown Live! during the Superstar Shakeup. However, Kofi suffered an ankle injury which delayed their debut on that show. When he returned, they started a long, entertaining feud with the Usos. Everytime these two teams face off, it is a joy to watch. This program lasted towards the end of the year and I consider it one of the best rivalries of 2017 with both teams trading wins back and forth.
2018- The year started with the New Day and the Usos continuing their bitter rivalry. Luke Harper and Erick Rowan were thrown into the program which lead to a triple threat tag team title match at WrestleMania 34. Rowan and Harper came out victorious. During the year, the New Day would be in the tag team title picture. They won the titles from Harper and Rowan two days after SummerSlam and lost them to the Bar at Smackdown 1000. They would end the year chasing the titles, coming up unsuccessful.
So you would think here that Kofi had reached the pinnacle of his career..........
