In August 2017, WWE put out a second installment of Southpaw Regional Wrestling videos, just days before SummerSlam. These were the precursor to the videos released n February, as these took place in 1986. We see Chett Chetterfield before his emotional breakdown, Tex2Badd as a tag team, Clint Bobski in his debut, and Mr. Mackelroy is up to his hijinks again. There were 6 episodes this time around that will lead up to an event called Showdown At The Swamp. The sponsor here is Old Spice, with Chetterfield and Mackelroy doing the ads, in hilarious fashion I might add. In this installment, we are introduced to new characters. We find out the identity of Susan, also the first female wrester of SRW debuts and there is a rivalry between two countries brewing. Just like the review before, I will tell you who the new characters are and will give my thoughts on this.
THE NEW CHARACTERS
Nicci Lee Styxxx (Dolph Ziggler) is the resident rock n' roller of Southpaw Regional Wrestling.
Rene Beret (Daniel Bryan) is a Frenchman who is very friendly and shows unconditional love for America.
Dan Bandana (Also Daniel Bryan) is a patriotic wrestler who confronts Rene Beret about his so-called love for America.
Malibu Al (A.J. Styles) is a shady car salesman whose ads run during Southpaw Regional Wrestling broadcasts.
Astounding Adam Dung (The Miz) is a down on his luck wrestler who fumbles through interviews and leaves when he has to face Mr. Mackelroy's voodoo associates.
The Butchers: Dry Rub Doug (Seth Rollins) and Frantic Frank (Rhyno) are the tag team champions of SRW and they are set to face Tex2Badd at Showdown At The Swamp
Porkchop Jones (Jason Jordan) is a cowboy who will compete in the Doing It For Dewey tournament.
The Danger Zone (The Ascension) are a tag team that are made to resemble the movie Top Gun.
Debbie Desperado (Natalya) is the first female wrestler in SRW, and the only one, too
Voo (Xavier Woods) and Doo (Big E) are the voodoo associates hired by Mr. Mackelroy, so he could keep his $10,000 after putting it up in an open challenge.
Susan (Renee Young) is the backstage correspondent who Chett Chetterfield falls for, only to have her break his heart.
Dewey Jackson (Michael Hayes) is the legendary wrestler/socialite who is deemed missing and SRW does a tournament in his honor.
(Adam Pearce and Santino Marella make brief cameo appearances in this.)
This installment was good. Was it better than the first one? No. Don't get me wrong, this was funny and entertaining. This just seems like WWE was more hands on this installment than the actual first one. The authenticity, again, is top notch and the promos by the characters were superb for it's comedic value. Then again, it seems like it lost some of the organic feel that the first one had. According to an interview by Ring Rust Radio, Chris Jericho, who is Clint Bobski in the series, was not a fan of this installment. He said it was like the sequel to a movie that is never as good as the original.
Do I hope they make another installment of this?...................Absolutely! It's a series that the talent can get by and would prolong it if it is done without just forcing poopoo jokes in it. And if you think about, what does WWE have to lose? Have you watched their product lately?
