A.J. Reviews Jenna vs. Sharmell (TNA Victory Road 2009)

The WWE is now featuring the Women's evolution in the forefront on their shows, including the Nov. 12 episode of Monday Night RAW where the ladies ended the show with a brawl. It is also the episode where Becky Lynch was clocked in the face by the fist of Nia Jax and stood there, with her arms extended like a badass. But enough about that, the point is that WWE has turned around their women's division to where their quality of matches are equally or, at times, better than their male counterparts. The future of division seems to look bright in WWE.

People tend to forget that many years earlier (I say around 2007-2010), TNA had their own women's evolution without the in-your-face promos that WWE does. From listening to Jim Cornette's podcast, the man behind TNA's women's evolution was Dutch Mantell (aka Zeb Colter in WWE). Mantell stated that he wanted the women to be competitors and not characterized as "skanks" or "hos" (His words, not mine). He also stated that during this period, that at times, the women's segments did better ratings than the men's segments. Competitors like Gail Kim, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Madison Rayne and Awesome Kong were featured prominently on TNA Impact and their pay-per-views. And with that, TNA's Knockouts (as they are called) Division was flourishing.

Unfortunately, one match almost singlehandedly set the women's division back some 40 years........in my opinion, of course.

TNA Victory Road 2009 was held at the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida. This entire pay-per-view was bad. Just bad. So bad that the Wrestling Observer newsletter named it "The Worst Major Wrestling Show" of 2009. It was around this time that Kurt Angle had that weird growing his hair and beard serial killer look. The match that was absolute trash was Jenna vs. Sharmell. A match so terrible that the same Wrestling Observer gave it MINUS FIVE STARS! Jenna Morasca was a contestant on the show Survivor with very little wrestling ability, and it showed on this match, while Sharmell had some wrestling ability and some knowledge in the ring, it didn't help her in this debacle. They had So Bolt and the aforementioned Awesome Kong at ringside to probably help the less experienced competitors. THAT didn't help. Jenna's entrance was considered to be just sloppy. It was a cross between Melina's splits and a drunk person that fell out of a chair. At one point, Jenna pulled out Sharmell's extension from her hair. There was a spot where Sharmell fell out of the ring and Awesome Kong was supposed to catch her, but Kong seemed like she was just bored and not interested in this just let Sharmell hit the floor. SPLAT! Jenna's comeback is what I described as someone would shoo a fly out of the way. The ending is Sharmell telling Kong to give her extension back, because Kong was in possession of her extension. Kong gives Sharmell a chop, which Sharmell sold well. With Sharmell lying on the mat, Jenna proceeds to do an exotic dance while she is pinning Sharmell. The pin, itself, is just sloppy. 1-2-3 and mercifully, it ends.

I knew when decided to do this, I understood that there were times that I (and CZ too) would have to do the worst when it comes to sports. If you're a wrestling fan and you want to see an unintentional comedy match, this is it. This is just.......I have no words to describe this train wreck.
