(This is exciting for me since it combines music and sports).
During the early and mid-90's, when the NBA was broadcast on NBC, and if you watched that, to me, the NBA on NBC's theme is ironic. I hear it till this day and think, WOW! NBC had the best coverage of NBA basketball. Marv Albert, Mike Fratello, Matt Goukas, (remember him), Dick Enberg (RIP), Steve "Snapper" Jones (RIP) and even at times Bill Walton made up this team of analysts that were top notch at the time.
But enough about me raving about NBC's NBA coverage, let's go back to 1992 and game 6 of the NBA Finals. I will not tell you much about it, because I plan on doing an article on this actual game. The Portland Trailblazers had a big lead going into the 4th quarter, but the Chicago Bulls came back and won the game and their second straight NBA title. Mass hysteria was at the old Chicago Stadium as I watched as the broadcast ended. Then they showed a video package playing a song which just fit the outcome. The song doesn't just lift you up, it grabs you by your shirt and tells you to keep going.
"Winning It All" is a song recorded by the English based rock band The Outfield. It is on their 1992 album Rockeye, which I own. It's a good album in my opinion. The Outfield is obviously known for their hit "Your Love" which is a classic that stands through time. My favorites from this band are "For You" and "Since You Been Gone". If you are an early 90s rock band junkie, this song is right up your alley..
This will be a short review, because the NBA should have capitalize on this like how NCAA basketball does with "One Shining Moment". Unfortunately, it didn't happen. The song was played for only four NBA Finals. To me, it deserved better.
